Phu Quoc is Vietnam's largest island, lying off the southwest coast in the Gulf of Thailand — closer to Cambodia than to most of Vietnam. Roughly half of it is national park, the west coast holds a long run of sand facing the sunset, and a scatter of smaller islands sits off the southern tip.
It has changed quickly. Resort development along the west coast and in the south has been substantial, and parts of the island now look nothing like they did a decade ago, while the northern and eastern coasts remain much quieter and harder to reach. Which version of Phu Quoc you get depends almost entirely on where you book.
The island has its own airport with direct flights from mainland Vietnam and elsewhere in the region, which makes it an easy add-on to a longer trip — and, for a lot of people, the part of that trip where nothing was scheduled.

Frequently asked questions about Phu Quoc
Where should I stay in Phu Quoc?
Long Beach on the west coast for most visits — it has the sunset views, the widest choice of resorts and restaurants, and the shortest trips to everything else. Ong Lang just north is quieter with more space between properties. The south around An Thoi is where the boat trips leave from, and the north and east are the quietest but need your own transport.
How many nights do I need in Phu Quoc?
Three or four is the usual shape — a couple of days on the beach and one out on a boat to the southern islands. It is a place people come to stop rather than to sightsee, so longer stays are common and there is no list of things to work through.
When is the best time to visit Phu Quoc?
November to March is the dry season, with calm seas, reliable sun and the best conditions for snorkelling and boat trips. The southwest monsoon from June to October brings heavy rain and rougher water, which makes island-hopping unreliable — it is much cheaper then, and that is why.
How do I get to Phu Quoc?
The island has its own airport with direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and a number of regional cities, which is how most visitors arrive. There are also ferries from Ha Tien and Rach Gia on the mainland, which take longer and are affected by the sea state in the monsoon months.
Do I need a visa for Phu Quoc?
Phu Quoc has at times operated visa exemption arrangements that differ from mainland Vietnam's, and the terms have changed more than once. Because of that, check the current official position for your nationality with a Vietnamese embassy or the official immigration portal before you travel rather than relying on any third-party summary, including this one.
How much does a hotel in Phu Quoc cost?
The range is wide — simple guesthouses and small beachfront places at one end, large international resorts at the other, with the biggest concentration along Long Beach. Rates peak sharply in the November to March dry season and fall in the monsoon. The list on this page is priced live for your dates, so you are seeing real figures rather than an estimate.
Do I earn cashback on Phu Quoc hotels too?
Yes — the rate is shown on each property before you book, exactly as it is everywhere else on DerLeng Free. It is credited to your balance as LENG after your stay, and you can hold it, convert it to USDC, or cash it out. You pay for the room normally.
