Sihanoukville is Cambodia’s deep-water port and its main beach city, sitting on a headland on the Gulf of Thailand with sand on three sides of it. For most travellers it is two things at once: a stretch of coast in its own right, and the place the islands are reached from, because the fast ferries to Koh Rong and its neighbours leave from here.
It is a proper city rather than a resort strip, and the beaches along it are genuinely different from one another — Ochheuteal is the busy one with everything on it, Otres is the long stretch to the south, and the smaller beaches sit on the other side of the headland near the older part of town. The main beach and the longest of them, lined end to end with restaurants, bars and hotels of every grade. The easiest place to stay — you can walk to dinner, and you will not have the sand to yourself.
Otres Beach
